Manhattan Beach

City in Los Angeles County, southwestern California, 21 km/13 mi southwest of downtown Los Angeles; population (1990) 32,100. Manhattan Beach lies on the Pacific Ocean just north of Hermosa Beach. It is a popular resort, with an annual Surf Festival and bicycle races. Industries here include oil refining and the manufacture of aerospace components, plus electrical, sporting, and other goods.
