Mannar, Gulf of

Inlet of the Indian Ocean between Sri Lanka and southern India, separated from the Palk Strait by the islands of Rameswaram and Mannar and a reef, Adam's Bridge (Rama's Bridge). It is about 240 km/150 mi wide at the entrance, and is known for its pearl fisheries.
