Manning, Warren Henry

Manning, Warren Henry (1860–1938)

US landscape architect. He joined the Olmsteds as a horticulturalist in 1888, becoming a design assistant before opening his own firm (1896–1938). Enormously successful, he delighted in training young designers and actively promoted the American Society of Landscape Architects. His commissions included a parkway system for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Hampton Institute in Virginia, and the Jamestown Exposition of 1907. The son of a nurseryman, Manning was born in Reading, Massachusetts.
