Maplewood

City in Ramsey County, southeastern Minnesota, a suburb lying 10 km/6 mi northeast of St Paul; population (1990) 31,000. The city experienced considerable residential and commercial growth during the 1970s and 1980s. Its many new shopping centers are not clustered along arterial routes, but are distributed throughout the community.

City in St Louis County, east-central Missouri; population (1990) 10,000. Situated 11 km/7 mi west-southwest of downtown St Louis, Maplewood is a residential and industrial suburb that also manufactures steel and aluminium products and tools.

Township in Essex County, northeast New Jersey, 8 km/5 mi west of Newark; population (1990) 21,700. Settled in 1866, it is a mainly residential suburb. There are some office buildings, a map publisher, and light industries making jewellery, cutlery, and precision instruments.
