Maracanã Stadium

One of the world's largest football stadiums, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, built in 1950. It has a capacity of 95,000 but held a world record 199,854 spectators for the 1950 World Cup final between Brazil and Uruguay.

It has also been used for world championship boxing contests and hosted the 1954 world basketball championship. Three of Rio's four big football teams – Flamengo, Botafogo, and Fluminense – use the stadium for their home matches.
