Maraş

Capital of Maraş (Kahramanmaraş) province, central Turkey, 176 km/110 mi northeast of Adana; population (1990) 228,100. It is situated in the Taurus Mountains, 700 m/2,297 ft above sea-level, near the confluence of the Aksu and Ceyhan rivers.
