Marcus Hook

Borough in Delaware County, southeastern Pennsylvania; population (1990) 2,500. Marcus Hook is a port on the Delaware River, standing some 29 km/18 mi west-southwest of Philadelphia.

Marcus Hook was settled by Swedes in the 1640s, and became a haven for pirates in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Its modern industrial enterprises include oil refineries, shipyards, and factories producing rayon and other goods.
