sniper

Soldier specially trained in accurate long-range shooting, scouting, and reconnaissance.

The sniper's function is to kill individual ‘high-value’ targets such as officers and specialists, to observe the enemy's activities and report upon them, and to seek out and kill enemy snipers.

In 2002 a Canadian sniper broke the world record for the longest recorded kill in a combat situation. He hit a target at 2,430 m with his TAC-50 sniper rifle.
