Marinuzzi, Gino (1882–1945)

Italian composer and conductor. He studied at Palermo Conservatory and first appeared as conductor at Catania, later working at Palermo, Madrid, Trieste, Buenos Aires, and Chicago. On his return to Italy he conducted opera in all the large cities and was director of the Liceo Musicale at Bologna, 1915–19. He gave the first performance of Puccini's Rondine (Monte Carlo, 1917), and first European performance of Il Trittico (Rome, 1919).

Works

operas Barberina (1918), Jacquerie Palla de' Mozzi (1932); suites Siciliana and Romana, symphonic poems Sicania, Elegia, and Rito nuziale for orchestra; Andantino all' antica for flute, strings and harp.
