mark-up

Additional amount added to the direct or variable cost of producing a good to arrive at the selling price. For example, a 50% mark-up on a good with a direct cost of £1 would mean that the company would sell the good for £1.50. The mark-up has to cover indirect and overhead costs as well as profit.
