Markelius, Sven Gottfrid (born 1889)

Swedish architect, born in Stockholm, member of the Advisory Committees for the UN headquarters in New York and the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. He designed many important buildings in Sweden, and laid out the new town at Vällingby, near Stockholm, an examplary plan combining an urban centre with residential blocks of flats and small houses (1953–9).

He was city architect and town planner to Stockholm 1944–54.
