Markova, Alicia (1910–2004)

English ballet dancer. A dancer of delicacy and lightness, she was associated with the great classical ballets such as Giselle. She danced with the Diaghilev Ballet 1925–29, was the first resident ballerina of the Vic-Wells Ballet 1933–35, partnered Anton Dolin in their own Markova–Dolin Ballet Company 1935–38, and danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo 1938–41, American Ballet Theater 1941–46, and the London Festival Ballet 1949–52. She was made a DBE in 1963.

She created a number of roles in Frederick Ashton's early ballets, such as Facade (1931).
