Marlowe, Julia

Marlowe, Julia (1866–1950)

English-born US actor. She made her stage debut in 1879 at the age of 12 under the name of Fanny Brough. As an adult she won acclaim for her 1887 performance as Parthenia in Ingomar, before appearing in a series of musical comedies and comic roles. She eventually established her reputation as a Shakespearean actor, playing opposite Richard Taber and E H Sothern, to whom she was married. Marlowe was born in Caldbeck, England, but moved to the USA at the age of four.
