Maroon5

US rock group. They released their funk-inspired, groove-based debut album Songs About Jane in 2002, featuring the singles ‘Harder to Breathe’ which became a major hit in 2003, and ‘This Love’ and ‘She Will Be Loved’, which became major international hits the following year.

Based in Los Angeles, California, the group comprises Adam Levine (1979– ) on vocals and guitar, James Valentine (1978– ) on guitar, Mickey Madden (1979– ) on bass, Jesse Carmichael (1979– ) on keyboards, and Ryan Dusick (1977– ) on drums. The group won the Best New Artist award at MTV's Video Music Awards in 2004 and topped the new UK Official Download Chart the same year.

Levine, Madden, Carmichael, and Dusick formed the alternative rock group Kara's Flowers during the mid 1990s and released The Fourth World (1997), an album popular on the college music scene that achieved critical, though not commercial, success. The group renamed itself Maroon5 with the addition of Valentine and signed to the independent Octone label in 2001. Other singles include ‘Sweetest Goodbye/Sunday Morning’ from the Love Actually (2003) soundtrack and ‘Woman’ from the Spiderman II (2004) soundtrack. The group released a collection of live and acoustic tracks, 1.22.03.Acoustic, in 2004.
