Marshall, Malcolm Denzil

    0.09 sec.

Marshall, Malcolm Denzil (1958–1999)

West Indian cricketer. A right-arm fast bowler from Barbados who in 81 Tests between 1978 and 1991 took 376 Test wickets at 20.94 per wicket, the lowest average so far achieved by a bowler taking over 200 Test wickets. With his fast run-up, his characteristic open-chested delivery and quick arm action he hurried even the best batsmen, and became the most feared of the West Indies' formidable fast bowling attack. He was at his peak between 1983 and 1986 when he took 20 or more wickets in seven consecutive Test series, though in 1988 he took 35 wickets against England at an average of 12.65.

He was also a stylish attacking batsman and scored six first-class centuries. As well as representing Barbados he played county cricket for Hampshire, and towards the end of his career, captained Natal province in South Africa. More recently he coached the West Indies.
