Martina Franca

Town in Apulia region, southeast Italy, 28 km/17 mi northeast of Taranto; population (1993 est) 45,700. It is a wine-producing centre. Features include a fine 17th-century ducal palace (the only work of Gianlorenzo Bernini in southern Italy), and some trulli (conical, whitewashed drystone houses).
