Martini, Frederic (1832–1897)

Swiss military engineer, of Hungarian origin. After serving in the Austrian army in the war of 1859, he established machine works at Frauenfeld in Switzerland. In 1871 he invented the breech-loading mechanism of the rifle which bears his name, the Martini-Henry.

Henry was the name of the inventor of the rifling system used in the barrel.
