Marton, Eva (1943– )

Hungarian soprano. She studied at the Liszt Academy, Budapest, and made her debut in 1968 as The Queen of Shemaka in Le Coq d'Or. She has since sung with Frankfurt Opera, 1972–77, and in Hamburg; she has also been heard in Salzburg, San Francisco, New York, and at Bayreuth. She appeared at Chicago in 1980, as Giordano's Maddalena. Her other roles include Tosca, Desdemona, Donna Anna, Eva, Elsa, Elisabeth de Valois, Elektra, and Korngold's Violanta. She made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1987, as Turandot and sang the Dyer's Wife at Salzburg in 1992.
