Maryborough

Port on the southeast coast of Queensland, Australia, 257 km/160 mi north of Brisbane; population (1996) 21,286. Maryborough is situated at the mouth of the River Mary, and is the centre of a region raising cattle and producing grain, sugar, fruit, vegetables, and timber. Industries include coal- and goldmining, iron- and steel production, sugar-milling, shipbuilding, and the manufacture of heavy machinery and locomotives.
