Mascheroni, Edoardo (1859–1941)

Italian conductor and composer. He began to study music as an adult under Boucheron at Milan. In 1883 he secured an engagement at the Teatro Goldini at Livorno. Not long after he moved to the Teatro Apollo in Rome, and in 1893 was chosen by Verdi to conduct the production of Falstaff at Milan. He also conducted Puccini, Wagner, and Catalani (the first performance La Wally, in 1892).

Works

operas Lorenza (1901) and La Perugina (1909); two Requiems, one for solo voices, chorus and orchestra and one for voices alone (both on the death of Victor Emmanuel I); chamber music; album of piano pieces.
