Mashhad

District and capital of the province of Khorasan, northeast Iran, and holy city of the Shiites; population (2006) 2,427,300. It is the second-largest city in Iran. It produces carpets, textiles, and leather goods. The magnificent mausoleum of the Imam Reza is visited annually by thousands of Shiite pilgrims.

A branch of the Trans-Iranian railway links Mashhad with Tehran.

Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Saturday said that his country plans to build a transit road to China which will pass through the Iranian cities of Tabriz, Tehran and Mashhad.
Local media quoted Ahmadinejad as saying in Mashhad on Sunday that US policies in South America are "doomed to be defeated.
Another passenger plane crashed in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 25, killing 16 people, including 13 crew members.
