Town in Barnstable County, southeastern Massachusetts; population (1990 est) 7,900. Mashpee stands on Cape Cod, immediately southwest of Barnstable, and was incorporated in 1870. A popular summer resort, Mashpee was the fastest-growing town on the Cape in the 1980s. Otis Air Force Base is situated to the west. Cranberries are cultivated extensively in the surrounding region.
