Masip, Juan Vicente de

    0.02 sec.

Masip, Juan Vicente de (1475–1550)

Spanish painter. His religious paintings show the influence of Raphael Sanzio, though they are individual in colour and detail. His Martyrdom of St Agnes and The Visitation (both Prado, Madrid) are examples.

His son Juan Vicente de Masip the Younger (1523–1579), also known as Juan de Juanes, whose reputation long overshadowed that of his father, developed a dramatic but artificial style, as in his Last Supper (Prado, Madrid). He was capable of vigorous portraiture, as in Don Luis de Castellà de Vilanova (Prado).
