hierarchy

Structure consisting of different levels of authority in, for example, a business organization, one above the other. At the top of the hierarchy of a company, for example, is the chair and at the bottom is the shop-floor worker. Each worker in the hierarchy should have a job description that clearly sets out his or her duties and position within it.

In computing, on Usenet, the structure for naming newsgroups. All newsgroups on Usenet are assigned to a major group. The Big Seven hierarchies were the first to be set up, and setting up a new newsgroup in these involved following more or less formal procedures. The alt hierarchy was set up to allow more flexibility. The biz hierarchy was set up 1994, after the first incidence of spamming, to give advertising its own place.

I also don't believe making a difference is something you do only when you reach the top of Maslow's hierarchy of needs pyramid, or when you volunteer at the local soup kitchen or write your check to public television.
In Part II, he explains key concepts of Maslow's hierarchy of needs and Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory and applies them to industry; material in this section is based on the author's thesis submitted to Oxford University for a higher research degree.
