Massa Maritima

Town in Tuscany region, north-central Italy, 40 km/25 mi northwest of Grosseto; population (1991) 9,500. It is situated in a mining district (copper, iron, lead, and silver). The cathedral is partly 13th-century and contains the sarcophagus of St Cerbone. There is a Romanesque town hall.
