Master of the King's/Queen's Music(k)

Honorary appointment to the British royal household, the holder composing appropriate music for state occasions. The first was Nicholas Lanier, appointed by Charles I in 1626; later appointments have included Edward Elgar and Arthur Bliss. The present holder, Malcolm Williamson, was appointed in 1975.
