Masterson, Valerie (1937– )

English soprano. She sang with D'Oyly Carte 1966–70; at the London Coliseum from 1971, as Constanze, Adèle, Oscar, Manon, and Sophie; and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London from 1974. Her other roles include Rossini's Elisabetta, Fiordiligi and Mozart's Countess (at the Aix Festival); Violetta (her US debut role, San Francisco, 1980); the Handel roles Morgana (Alcina), Cleopatra, Semele (at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, 1982), and Romilda (Xerxes, English National Opera, 1985); and the Marschallin (Liège, 1993).
