mast cell

In medicine, one of the histamine-containing cells involved in the production of inflammatory reactions, in response to an external trigger factor. For example, cells in the airways or in the bronchial epithelium release histamine and other mediators in response to allergic stimuli, such as allergens, infection, stress, and exercise.
