Matamoras

Borough in Pike County, in the far northeast of Pennsylvania; population (1990) 1,900. Matamoras stands on a plateau above the Delaware River opposite its sister city, Port Jervis, in New York State. It was settled by the Dutch in the mid-18th century, and was a popular holiday resort until the mid-20th century.
