Matheson, Scott Milne

Matheson, Scott Milne (1929– )

US politician. A Utah lawyer, he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad (1958–76), becoming solicitor general in 1972. As Democratic governor of Utah (1977–85), he led a coalition of western governors who demanded involvement in federal planning for land use, particularly water conservation, energy development, and missile placement. He later returned to practising law. Matheson was born in Chicago, Illinois.
