Mathews, Charles James (1803–1878)

English actor. He was the most accomplished light comedian of his time, especially in adaptations of French comedy. He married Lucia Vestris in 1838 and with her managed Covent Garden and the Lyceum in London. He was the son of the actor and entertainer Charles Mathews (1776–1835).
