Mathewson, Christy

Mathewson, Christy (Christopher) (1880–1925)

US baseball player. He was signed by the New York Giants of the National League 1900 and during a 17-year major-league career, he amassed an impressive record of 373 wins and 188 losses. He retired from play 1916, becoming manager of the Cincinnati Reds 1916–18.

Born in Factoryville, Pennsylvania, Mathewson attended Bucknell University.

Mathewson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame 1936.
