Mathewson, Christy (Christopher) (1880-1925)

US baseball player. He was signed by the New York Giants of the National League 1900 and during a 17-year major-league career, he amassed an impressive record of 373 wins and 188 losses. He retired from play 1916, becoming manager of the Cincinnati Reds 1916-18.

Born in Factoryville, Pennsylvania, Mathewson attended Bucknell University.

Mathewson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame 1936.
