Matsushita

Japanese electrical and electronics hardware manufacturer, ranked 59th-largest company in the world in 2007 by Forbes Global 500. Its products have been sold under the brand names National, Panasonic, Technics, and Quasar, although the company has used Panasonic as its primary global brand since 2004. Matsushita announced in January 2008 that it planned to change the corporate name to Panasonic with effect from October 2008 subject to shareholders' approval.

The company was founded in 1918 in Osaka by businessman Konosuke Matsushita. Matsushita developed the VHS video format, which eventually conquered the market (though considered technically inferior to Sony's Betamax).
