Matthau, Walter (1920–2000)US actor. He was impressive in both comedy and dramatic roles. He gained film stardom after his stage success in The Odd Couple (1965), the first of several collaborations with Neil Simon, and won an Academy Award for The Fortune Cookie (1966). In Grumpy Old Men (1993) and Grumpy Old Men II (1995), he was reunited with his frequent 1960s co-star Jack Lemmon. Matthau's many films include Charade (1963), the film version of The Odd Couple (1968), Kotch (1971), Charley Varrick (1973), and The Sunshine Boys (1975). How to thank TFD for its existence?
