Mattila, Karita (1960– )

Finnish soprano. She studied in Helsinki and won the 1983 Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. She made her opera debut in 1981 at Savonlinna, as Donna Anna; her Finnish National Opera debut in 1983, as Mozart's Countess; her US debut in Washington DC in 1983, as Donna Elvira; and her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1986 as Fiordiligi. She returned to Covent Garden as Pamina and Agathe and appeared at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York from 1990, as Elvira and Eva. Other roles include Mozart's Ilia (San Francisco, 1989) and Verdi's Amelia Boccanegra (Geneva, 1991). She has made many concert appearances.
