Mauchline

Town in East Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, situated on the River Ayr, 12 km/7 mi southeast of Kilmarnock; population (2001) 4,100. Agricultural implements and granite curling stones are manufactured here.

The town and surrounding area are rich in connections with the poet Robert Burns. Poosie Nancy's Inn, featured in his writings, still stands in Mauchline, and the poet lived nearby at Mossgiel Farm. A museum and a tower are dedicated to his memory.
