Mausolus

Ruler of Caria under Persian influence from 377-353 BC. He expanded his rule on the mainland of Asia Minor and in the islands at the expense of Athens, and developed Halicarnassus as a strategic and cultural centre. With his sister and wife, Artemisia, he planned his tomb, the mausoleum, which became one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
