Mausolus
| Ruler of Caria under Persian influence from 377–353 BC. He expanded his rule on the mainland of Asia Minor and in the islands at the expense of Athens, and developed Halicarnassus as a strategic and cultural centre. With his sister and wife, Artemisia, he planned his tomb, the mausoleum, which became one of the Seven Wonders of the World. |
