Mauve, Anton (1838–1888)| Dutch landscape painter. He painted grey, rainy country scenes with subdued harmonies of tone. He worked in The Hague, where Vincent van Gogh, his nephew, was briefly his pupil. |
| Mauve was born in Zaandam, North Holland. He was a friend of Josef Israëls and the Maris brothers and an admirer of the Barbizon School. |
