Opera by Milhaud (libretto by A Lunel, translated from a German libretto by R S Hoffmann, based on Franz Werfel's play, Juarez und Maximilian), produced at the Paris Opéra on 4 January 1932. It chronicles the misfortunes of the Habsburg monarch in a Mexican war.

They describe a classic experiment done nearly a century ago by French agricultural engineer Maximilien Ringelmann.
1794: Maximilien Robespierre, one of the leaders of the French Revolution, was guillotined in Paris.
During the French Revolution, Maximilien Robespierre spent a year heading the Committee of Public Safety which, without a hint of irony, was in charge of slaughtering people.
