Maximinus Daia, Caius Galerius Valerius

Maximinus Daia (or Maximinus Daza), Caius Galerius Valerius (died AD 313)

Roman emperor in the eastern part of the empire AD 310–13. Maximinus was raised by his uncle, the emperor Galerius, to the rank of Caesar (deputy), and became governor of Syria and Egypt 305. In 310 he assumed the title of Augustus, and on the death of Galerius 311 succeeded to the provinces of Asia. He made an agreement with the emperor Licinius but was soon afterwards defeated by him at Heraclea and Maximinus fled. He died at Tarsus.
