Maxwell, Hamish (1926– )

Scottish-born tobacco executive. He emigrated to the USA after World War II and spent his career at Phillip Morris (1954–91). As variously president, CEO, and chairman of Philip Morris International (1978–85), Philip Morris, Inc (1983–85), and Philip Morris Cos, Inc (1985–91), he was renowned for achieving high earnings and diversification through acquisitions such as Kraft Foods (1988).
