Maynard

Town in Middlesex County, northeastern Massachusetts, 26 km/16 mi south-southwest of Lowell; population (2000 est) 10,400. Situated just west of Concord, on the Assabet River, Maynard has had wool and grist mills since the early 18th century, and became an important woollen milling town in the mid-19th century. It is now the home of the Digital Equipment Corporation. Maynard was incorporated in 1871.

It is named after Amory Maynard, who founded a mill here in 1847.
