Mayo, Henry Thomas

Mayo, Henry Thomas (1856–1937)

US naval officer. He was the central American figure in the Tampico Incident of 1914 that led to the US naval capture of Veracruz, Mexico. He was commander of the Atlantic Fleet (1916–19), in charge of all naval forces in Atlantic and European waters during World War I. He represented the USA at the Allied naval conference in London, England, in 1917. Mayo was born in Burlington, Vermont.
