Mayon, Mount

Active volcano in Albay province on southern Luzon Island in the Philippines. Its cone, said to be the world's most symmetrical, rises to a height of 2,450 m/ 8,038 ft. A seismography station is situated at 750 m/2,460 ft. Major eruptions occurred in 1814, 1968, 1978, 1984, and 1993. Hemp is grown on its lower slopes.
