Maysville

City and seat of Mason County, northeastern Kentucky; population (1990) 7,200. Maysville stands on the Ohio River, 87 km/54 mi northeast of Lexington.

The city was established as Limestone in 1787, at the mouth of Limestone Creek. Maysville was long known as a river port and shipbuilding centre. It is now an important market town for trade in burley tobacco, and also has some metal and textile industries.
