Maywood

City in Los Angeles County, southwestern California, 8 km/5 mi southeast of downtown Los Angeles; population (1990) 27,900.

Maywood is a predominantly Hispanic suburb that lies just northeast of Huntington Park. It has some industry, including food processing, and manufactures furniture and other items. .

Village in Cook County, northeastern Illinois, on the Des Plaines River, 18 km/11 mi west of Chicago; population (1990) 27,100.

Primarily a residential community, Maywood has industries producing cans, cartons, metal tubing, and surgical equipment. Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminary is situated here. Maywood Park Race Track lies 2 km/1 mi north of the village. Located just south of Maywood is a cluster of medical institutions, including Loyola University Medical Center and John J. Madden Health Center.
