Mazura, Franz (1924- )

Austrian bass-baritone. He made his debut in Kassel in 1949 and sang in Mainz and Mannheim. In 1963 he became a member of the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, where he had success as Pizarro, Scarpia, and Schoenberg's Moses. From 1974 he has appeared at Bayreuth, at first as Alberich and Klingsor, then as Gunther in the Solti-Hall Ring. In 1985 he sang Berg's Doctor at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, returning there as Klingsor in 1992.
