Mbala

Town in Zambia, the most northerly in the country, situated at the southern end of Lake Tanganyika; population (2001 est) 15,900. It is an administrative centre and headquarters of the International Red Locust Control Organization for Southern and Central Africa. Nearby are the Kalambo Falls.

In November 1918 German troops surrendered to the British at Abercorn, as Mbala was then known.
