| Term used in the singular to describe several types of large gourd-resonated lamellophones throughout southeastern Africa, especially Zimbabwe. Tuned metal strips are attached to a soundboard and amplified by a gourd or box resonator. Also known to non-Africans as a ‘finger piano’, ‘thumb piano’, or ‘hand piano’. |
